High Tide: One Woman Show on Rachel Carson's Life and Writings

Playing Thursday June 19 to Saturday June 28, 2014 at the Ottawa Fringe Festival

High Tide: On the Life and Writings of Rachel Carson.

In 1929 environmental issues were disregarded by the general public. The heroine of this play (and arguably of the past century) made the world regard them. In High Tide, created and performed by Toronto actor Morgan Johnson, we meet a young Rachel Carson encountering for the first time her lifelong muse: the ocean. Struggling to find the words to write her first book on this subject, she is unknowingly on the brink of becoming one of the most historically important women of the 20th century.

Today, fifty years after Carson's death, we are surrounded by concerning environmental issues than ever. High Tide offers a unique perspective on this overwhelming problem through the eyes of a passionate woman naive to our modern day concerns. Rather than accusing and reprimanding, this play questions the root of our problems with beautiful curiosity. Carson's radical advice for the world? Simply to foster a “sense of wonder.” This show uses wit, humour, and a resounding honesty that will leave audiences questioning the past, present, and future of life as we know it.

Presented through the Ottawa Fringe Festival 2014.
